Point is on GW forums at least you will NOT get a good review for WoW. So if you are looking for back up you are at the wrong place. The most we can do is save you from WoW.

Personally, I tried WoW for about a year (on- and off...) and I'm never looking back. Got myself a Hunter to lv. 80, and a Rogue somewhere mid 70's. Both created after trying all the other classes several times.

The leveling was a pain, getting ganked every 30 minutes was just frustrating for a new player... Once I got to max level on my first character, there was nothing left to do.

Getting equipment was a chore. PuG-ing was horrible (everyone's just so busy getting their 'gear', that it's not a social thing anymore. Rather the opposite- fights about drops/loot aren't uncommon at all), so I made a second character and went through the whole painful process called leveling again. After this I quit for the first time in half a year. I took a couple of months off, and a month after the release of WotLK, I figured I'd give it one more try.

I, for one, couldn't -and wouldn't- change my whole schedule to fit the times my guild was being active. While I did like the people, staying social in an online game wouldn't help me enjoy the game more. I'd rather socialise with friends. My guild was one or two months ahead of me in terms of getting equipment, so after getting my level maxed (Lv.80 compared to the Lv.70 before) it was back to PuG's. Considering I went through that before, I took my own advice and quit.

My thoughts now; I didn't play it to 'have fun', like a video game should be, I played to waste some time. And in the time I played it, it rapidly grew to be an actual addiction before I intervened.

Just make sure that if you play it, make sure you enjoy it. But don't live around it.

I haven't played it and never would.
I just really don't like how it looks, it's silly I know. The cartoony art style is just meh for mmos with a $15/mo subscription imo.
However, if you like how the game looks and the playstyle etc, go for it. I'm sure you'll enjoy it if it's what you're into.

How about a game where you can play as a dragon. Including growth stages from hatchling to adult to ancient. Jumping off a cliff? How about jumping off a cliff, spreading wings, landing and initiating combat with a blast of Dragon Breath?

A game with multiple week server wide events that ended up changing the face of the game world. Involving both the "crafter" class of player as well as the "combat" class of player. Such as an event to release a new race of playable character.

Satyr were an enslaved race. The first stage was to rebuild tunnels to transportation portals. Multiple sections of tunnel were built. This had the entire server form a sort of assembly line. Players made raw resources, others crafted those into the construction pieces, others transported those pieces to the job site, others built the actual tunnel with those pieces and all the while the combat players were clearing the job site of the enemy that didn't want this to occur.

After the tunnels were built it lead to a protected island that contained an enslavement stone that required many combat groups to clear the enemies and even more to take out the stone. Took days to take out the stone.

There were 4 islands total.

After the tunnels were crafted, the enslavement stones destroyed, a new playable race was unlocked for everyone to play.

Now THAT is impressive. THAT was a game with potential. Sadly it was not created by a company with experience and the company itself imploded.

Politics and other crap caused those that ran things to run it into the ground. Just barely making it to release. A poor release that was too early. One that was forced out the door by those with the money. The game barely survived. Finally it looked like it was turning around and the main owner pulled the plug and sold to the worlds worst company in existence. A company who's motto was "Dude! Let us host your game!" with a mascot that was nothing more than a clipart of a light bulb/flying saucer thing. The game was run into the ground by these idiots and then resold to a core group of people who used to work in the original company. Sadly with so little player base, and so little in the way of employees. The game will never be on par with WoW.

If this game had the benefit of a company that knew what it was doing with financial stability of a company like Blizzard, WoW would never have survived. Even with the rabid fanbase that Blizzard owns.

This thread has shown that you already know you want to play WoW, but you really don't want other people's opinions. You have formed your opinion long before you made the post. You also make it clear that you disregard anyone with an opinion that does not shed WoW in a good light.

There are many games out there that are better than WoW. The only difference is the player base and hype.

I really wish that Horizons (Now called Istaria) had been created by a real company with skill, knowledge, and financial backing. I'd still be playing it today.

wow = too much money....too much grind, = me not playing it. (its NOT for the causal gamer with no big friends list).

Actual non-ignorant-towards-opinions WoW-curious person here.

I was told the structuring of WoW was somewhat based off of Diablo 2. I realize a big thing about Diablo 2 was gear and level (as it seems WoW is), so how similar are the two in that aspect?

Any D2 addicts who played WoW and loved it? Hated it? Why/why not?

I have played it for about 3 months. I loved it, only get to lv 50+ though. It was great from the get go up til about lv 30+ then everything went all hardcore for me and the fun started to drop. So that was it.

First time in Stormwind was still a pretty epic experience for me though. That flying taxi was awesome as well.

This thread is a little slow in the head.

Most of the people on GWGuru have never played WoW because the thought of paying a monthly fee either scares them off, or their parents refuse to give them $0.50 a day for it; and most of the people that have played WoW are either free trial users or people who got tired of paying $0.50 a day to play it before getting past level 30 or so, therefore they have no idea what the game actually has to offer. I could name names, but they'd probably whine about it. Suffice to say, WoW is currently an EXTREMELY casual game that appeals to a wide variety of MMO gamers, and anyone who actually knew anything about the game would be able to tell you as much.

Then there are the people that are too busy gushing over the Korean grindan gaem known as Aion to stop dissing other games they know nothing about. These people make me chuckle.

TL;DR: Go ask this on a neutral forum, OP. Like GameFAQS or GameSpot or IGN, or something. Fansites are not the place to ask for opinions on competing games. Most people here are just going to be talking out of their ass and blindly praising Guild Wars.

Now where the heck is Slayer when you need him...
